our purpose
Too many people in our community face barriers that hold them back. These include money worries, isolation, low confidence, health challenges, or missing out on education and skills. Help often exists, but people don’t always know where to find it or don’t feel it’s meant for them.
Give A Little Back CIC exists to be that open door. We bring practical support, learning and wellbeing activities into welcoming local spaces, so people can build confidence, gain skills and move forward on their own terms.
OUR STORY AND OUR NAME
The name "Give A Little Back grew" from the community work inspired by Tuition Time Hub’s Impact Pledge. Give a Little Back" began as the Impact Pledge of Tuition Time Hub, a commitment the local tuition centre has made since it began, to give part of its profits to community and global causes.
During the pandemic that local outreach grew, and the local council encouraged us to set up a dedicated organisation for community work. Give A Little Back CIC was incorporated on 5 July 2023.
Today the CIC is a separate legal organisation with its own identity, directors, finances and funding. It runs its own local programmes, funded through grants and partnerships. The CIC now manages its own grants, partnerships and restricted programme funding. The CIC does not fund Tuition Time Hub’s Impact Pledge, and CIC funding is never used for Tuition Time Hub’s commercial services. The two share a name and a history, but not their money.
practical community lifecycle
Every initiative begins with honest listening. Here is how grassroots feedback in Huddersfield transforms into structured, accountable, and lasting community support.
We start by listening to local people, families and partners to understand what support is really needed, and what gets in the way.
We shape welcoming, practical programmes around those needs, working with participants, volunteers and local partners.
We secure grants, partnerships, safe venues and the right equipment, using every pound for the purpose it was given.
We run sessions locally in safe, friendly spaces, led by trained staff and volunteers who have completed safeguarding checks.
We gather feedback, track outcomes and use what we learn to improve each programme and plan what comes next.
What We DO
Our work covers six areas, shaped around what our community tells us it needs. Together they help people build confidence, gain skills and move forward.
Programme Status Note:
Programme availability depends on funding, venue capacity and volunteer support, so not every area runs at the same time.
Holiday clubs, wellbeing sessions and youth activities that give local children and teenagers safe, positive spaces to grow.
Mental health and emotional wellbeing support, physical activity and healthy living sessions that help people feel well and connected.
Demystifying essential technology, digital safety basics, and everyday online services through patient, one-to-one local guidance.
CV and interview support, careers information and volunteering to help people move towards training and employment.
Practical support, peer networks and family sessions that help parents and carers feel supported and less alone.
Education support, adult learning and practical skills like budgeting and healthy cooking that build everyday independence.
our local origins
What started as an urgent local response to lockdown learning disruption has evolved into a permanent, asset-locked Community Interest Company dedicated to educational equity across Kirklees.
From its very first year, Huddersfield tuition centre Tuition Time Hub committed 20% of its profits to community projects and global causes, and named this promise the Give a Little Back Impact Pledge.
When lockdown closed the centre, the Impact Pledge funded free meals for local families entitled to free school meals, food packs for struggling families, and food for NHS workers. The response showed how much more local support was needed.
Encouraged by the local council, we set up a dedicated community organisation. Give A Little Back CIC was incorporated on 5 July 2023 as an asset-locked Community Interest Company, with a board of three directors from October 2023.
The CIC began running its own local classes, including women's counselling classes and children's wellbeing classes.
Kirklees Council grants have funded our Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) clubs, giving local children nutritious meals and enriching activities during the school holidays.
We joined the Kirklees Digital Inclusion Network and Good Things Foundation's National Digital Inclusion Network, preparing new digital skills programmes for local adults.
The CIC now runs its own local programmes with its own directors, finances and funding. Tuition Time Hub's Impact Pledge continues separately as the centre's own giving and does not fund the CIC.
